Counting in the beginning fingers were used for counting number.

Through out history man has been looking constantly for the way of making calculations easily.
For this purpose Chinese made a wooden frame holding of number of parallel rods on which beads or stone were threaded named as "Abacus" or "Counting Frame".
In 1942, the great French of mathematician Blaise Pascal invented calculator called "Pascal's Calculator".
In 1823, Babbage's Difference Engine" was constructed, this mechanism was used by a number of business organizations.
After ten years Charles Babbage introduced another device called "Babbage's Analytical Engine". There are three basic types' parts
1.    Control Unit (CU)
2.    Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)
3.    Memory Unit

Lady Ala Augusta, daughter of Lord Byron, assisted Charles Babbage. She developed programming ideas for Babbage's machine. She is known as the first programmer.
