Duty of woman in Islam
|
Before the advent of Islam the women was
considered to be the most invaluable specie on earth but after Islam the
Muslim woman encouraged to practice her religion and develop her
intellectual faculties through out her life. She is responsible for the care of
home and the children's early training. She may own her own property, run her
own business. It would appear therefore that the Islamic system has achieved the
right mixture of freedom and security that women seek and that is in the
interest of the society as a whole. She may not be married without being
consulted and is able to obtain divorce. Finally she can look forward to an old
age in which she is respected and shown every care by her children and by the
society as a whole.
Apart from her role as a wife, the
Muslim woman has a very important role as mother. The
status and value attached to parents in the Muslim world is very high.
According to one very famous Hadith the
Prophet (P-B-U-H) said:
"Paradise lies at the feet of mothers"
The Muslim mother has a great feeling of
security about the type of care and consideration she can expect from her
children when she reaches old age. As the verse of the Quran quoted above
indicates, thankfulness to parents is linked with thankfulness to Allah, and a
failure in either of these respects is indeed a major failure in one's religious
duties.
Women are allowed to work in Islam,
subject to certain conditions, and even recommended to do so should they be in
financial need. Both husbands and wives are required to inform their spouses
before leaving home. A woman needs her husband's permission to leave home. Hijab
is the basic requirement of Islam for Muslim women a woman should act and dress
in a way that does not draw sexual attention to her when she is in the presence
of someone of the opposite sex.
