Makkah is the holiest city in the Islamic world. Every year, millions of Muslims walk a pilgrimage to Makkah. This is called the Hajj, where they follow in the footsteps of Muhammad. The Kaaba and Masjid al-Haram, the holiest mosque in Islam is situated here. Makkah is closed to non-Muslims except some journalists reporting on the Hajj.
The complete name of Makkah is Makkah tul-Mukarramah is a city in Saudi Arabia. It has a population of 1,294,167 counted in 2004. The city is located 73 kilometres from Jeddah, 277 metres above sea level. The Kaaba, towards which Muslims pray is believed to have been built by Hazrat Ibrahim and his son Hazrat Ismail. In Makkah there is a well of Zamzam which is one of the miracle of Islam was produce in Makkah by the Hazrat Ismail (P-B-U-H) he was a kid than and was left alone in a desert of Makkah by his father Hazrat Ibrahim, when he felt thirsty and start crying and rubbed his feet against the sand. A pool of water produced and shaped itself into a well which came to be called Zumzum water and it is still fulfilling the requirement for water. Madina is located in the north-western part of the Saudia Arabia, to the east of the Red Sea, which lies only 250 km away from it. Madina is the city of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and also his burial place. There are many mosques in Madina. The first mosques of the Islam masji-e-quba is also there. Masjid-e-Nabawi which was previously the house of Hazrat Muhammad and now there is his graveyard lie in madina. This mosque is very beautiful and pilgrims must visit there instead to visit there is not a part of Hajj nor umrah. |
