Dow medical college was established in Hyderabad Pakistan in 1941. Before the independence the Indian Medical Council raised many medical schools to university level to maintain the medical education. Through the efforts of Dr Holmisted this medical school got the status of Degree College by the government of sindh. During the same year in 1941 the government of sindh also took the decision to move this college from Hyderabad to Karachi. The government of sindh in order to implement on their decision appointed a committee consisted of Dr Hermends, the minister of public health Col. J. E. Gray the inspector general of civil hospitals and Mr. Abhichand the Executive Engineer. The committee made the plans for Dow medical college. The inauguration of the college was done by governor Maudie of Sind in Hyderabad in 1945. The first batch took admission in the dow college was consisted of 45 students among them there was a Muslim girl named Ms. Fahmida Shaikh. In 1944,the university of Bombay appointed the three members committee. Later this committee recommended this college moving to Karachi. The new building of this college build in Karachi on December 10 1945 by Sir Hugh Dow after this this medical college was named. Now this college is going toward modernization . The library system is being renovated. The latest audiovisual equipments, computers and multimedia learning system have been introduced in the college. Medline and internet facilities are also available for the students. |
