Lahore zoo is
one of the oldest zoos in the world that established in 1872 was once
considered one of the largest zoo in Asia. At the beginning it started on a
very small place donated by the Lal Mahundra Ram. Then it developed
gradually and now its animal collection is also increased. There are about
1381 animals of 136 species, 996 birds of 82 species, 49 reptiles of 8 and
336 mammals of 45 species. First the management of zoo is under control of
Lahore Municipal Corporation. During this period very little development
took place. Later its management went under the control of Livestock and
Dairy Development Department. Finally the management of zoo was taken by the
Wildlife &parks department. It is located in the heart of the city and
people from every walk of life can go and enjoy there. Lahore zoo
also has a botanical garden. You can also see the pictures of animals and
every corner of the zoo. |
