At present there are four
Environmental Protection Tribunals at Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta.
Environmental Protection Tribunal is final and the big authority in issues
related to Environment.
Environmental Protection
Agency, Balochistan was created on 22nd February 1992. Environmental
Protection Tribunal is final and the big authority in issues related to
Environment.
The main functions of the
Environmental Protection Agency are:

It developed policies
for more effective and sustainable use of natural resources.

Create awareness in
public of damage done to the environment and natural resources.

Convey problems to high
priority about resources.

Undertaking studies and
technical assistant for staff training, and Prepare future environmental
protection and natural resource management projects.

Improving the
environment and natural resources of Balochistan and make it for useful.

Measure and monitor
industrial, urban and agricultural pollutant discharge in the air,
waters and soil of Balochistan.
Air pollution:

The main environmental
issues of Quetta city has been presented by EPA.

It has been estimated
that 70% of the air pollution produced in the city is due to the
vehicles emissions.

The brick kilns in the
Quetta city discharging smoke, ash and poisonous gases such as Sulphur
dioxide in the atmosphere.

EPA intends to provide
the necessary equipments for the monitoring of the emission from the
vehicle. This will help in monitoring emission levels in the city.

Right now there are
eight stone crushers operating in city they are the major cause of dust
in the city.

Substitutes have been
proposed by EPA and the work is in progress over these issues.
Solid Pollution:
After the fact has been
find out that plastic bags has very adverse effect on environment EPA has
ban its use in Balochistan.
The improper disposal /
treatment of solid waste and the effluents of public and private hospitals
cause Hepatitis A,B,C and many other infectious disease. EPA has carried out
survey of the Public and Private Hospital and proposes arrangements for the
proper and safe disposal of hospital wastes.
