Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was
born on 5th January, 1928. He was a Pakistani most popular politician who became
member of Pakistan's delegation to the United Nations, Cabinet Minister, Foreign
Minister, President of Pakistan from 1971 to 1973 and Prime Minister of Pakistan
from 1973 to 1977. He also formed one Political party called Pakistan Peoples
Party (PPP) which is very strong and popular in Pakistan and now a day this
party is ruling over the country.
In 1949, he got
admission in University of California, Berkeley, where he gains honors degree in
political science. In 1950 he went to England and study law at Christ Church,
Oxford. Upon finishing his studies, he was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in
1953. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto accepted the post of lecturer at the Sindh Muslim College in Pakistan,
from where he was also awarded an honorary law degree established himself in a
legal practice in Karachi. He also look after the his family's estate and
business interests after his father's death. In September, 1951Bhutto married
his second wife, Begum Nusrat Ispahani. They have 4 childs.
In 1957, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto became the
youngest member of United Nations from Pakistan’s delegation. In 1958 became the
youngest Pakistani Cabinet Minister. He than promoted to ministries of commerce,
information and industries. In 1962, he was appointed Pakistan's Foreign
Minister. Bhutto joined Ayub in Tashkent to negotiate a peace talk with the
Indian Prime Minister Shastri. Ayub and Shastri agreed to exchange prisoners of
war and withdraw their forces boundaries. This agreement results in Bhutto
opposition to Ayub Khan and he resigned in 1967 June. On Nvember 1967 Zulfikar Ali Bhutto
launched the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Lahore with the support of all the
peoples of nation. Bhutto arrest on November 12, 1968 .After his release, Bhutto
attended the Round Table Conference called by Ayub in Rawalpindi, but refused to
accept Ayub's continuation with the government and president General Yahya Khan
said to arrange elections on December 7, 1970 and Bhutto's party won a large
number of seats from West Pakistan. On December 16, 1971, Yahya fails to collect
vote of confidence from many political parties including Bhutto. Yahya resigned
on December 20 and gave power to Bhutto, who became the president, army
commander-in-chief and the first civilian chief martial law administrator.
In1972 Bhutto nationalizations all major industries, including iron and steel,
heavy engineering, heavy electricals, petrochemicals, cement and public
utilities. Developed labour policy. On 10 August 1973, Bhutto gave the post of
president to Fazal Ilahi Chaudhry and took over the post prime minister.
In 1976, Bhutto
appointed Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq in place of general Tikka Khan. On January 8, 1977
many opposition political parties gathered and formed the Pakistan National
Alliance (PNA). Bhutto called fresh elections and the PNA participated in those
elections. However on July 5, 1977 Bhutto and members of his cabinet were
arrested by the order of General Zia. Nusrat Bhutto became the PPP's leader
after her husband's arrest and execution. His trial began on October 24 on
charges of "conspiracy to murder" Ahmed Raza Kasuri. On July 5, 1977 General
Muhammad Zia-ul-Haqtook over the power of Bhutto. Upon his release, Bhutto
traveled the country amid adulatory crowds of PPP supporters. On September 3 the
Army arrested Bhutto again on charges of murder of his opposition man. On March
18, 1978, He was sentenced to death. On 4 April 1979 at 2.04am PST he was hanged
at Adiyala Jail,Rawalpindi.
